Singer Will Young is to host a show on a pop-up jazz radio station alongside a star-studded line-up that includes Sir Van Morrison and Jamie Cullum.

BBC Music Jazz will see the broadcaster team up with Jazz FM in a 96-hour extravaganza showcasing the genre's biggest stars as well exploring its relationship with David Bowie.

Launching next month, the digital station will feature an-hour long show from Young, who shocked Strictly Come Dancing fans earlier this month after withdrawing from the popular BBC programme.

The Pop Idol winner will spin some of his favourite records including songs from jazz greats Nina Simone and Billie Holiday.

Young described hosting the show as "the biggest treat", adding: "I felt really privileged to be asked.

"I am a jazz singer at heart. Jazz is that simple connection with the audience, saying 'here have a listen and see what you think'."

Among the highlights will be Jazz FM's rare archive coverage of Ella Fitzgerald in concert from the 1990s.

Soul singer Laura Mvula will celebrate Miles Davis whilst pianist Neil Cowley will explore the late Bowie's influence on the genre.

The station will also provide a countdown of the 50 top jazz albums and include live performances from the London Jazz Festival.

BBC Music Jazz will begin at 10am on Thursday November 10 and run until Monday November 14.

Listeners will be able to tune in on digital radio, online in the UK and globally via the BBC iPlayer radio app.
