Winona: I doubt I'll marry
Winona Ryder is in awe of her parents still being "giddily in love" after 43 years of marriage.
The brunette actress has dated a number of famous men in the past, including Johnny Depp and Matt Damon, both of who she was engaged to.
Despite being close in the past Winona has never walked down the aisle. Her parents Cynthia Palmer and Michael Horowitz's ideal relationship has made it impossible for her to settle for anything less when it comes to her own love life.
“It’s crazy because they are still so in love after 43 years together - and I mean giddily in love. That set the bar so high for me. I think it may be why I never got married," she told British newspaper The Telegraph.
"Look... I mean [to] talk about baby fever... This is a little personal but I’m 42 and… Well, I was talking to my dad last year and saying, ‘What if I can’t have a kid?’ and he said, ‘There are other ways to have children in your life.’ That’s true - and I get these amazing doses with my brother’s kids. But I’ve got to stop listening to other people. It’s crazy the stuff women will tell you.”
Winona found herself catapulted into the limelight after starring in films such as Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands, where she met Johnny. With her celebrity status has come ups and downs, one of these being arrested for shoplifting in 2001.
“Fame can be incredibly isolating. Dangerously so. And I’ve definitely gone through that. There was a time when I would go for a hike and I wouldn’t even know that I was being photographed," she recalled.
“It was actually pretty weird and traumatic. I was so young that I didn’t really understand what was going on. I always just really wanted to be a good actress.”
Throughout her film career Winona has been nominated for two Oscars for her roles in The Age of Innocence and Little Women. As she gets older the actress enjoys taking on new and more mature roles.
“It was hard to find that transition to adult roles. But I’m actually really enjoying getting older because I went through a period of time where I was technically old enough for roles but always associated with younger ones," she explained. "The whole of my thirties was spent that way. Now that I’m in my forties it’s getting a little bit easier.”
