Witherspoon’s husband ‘feels awful’ about DUI

Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon’s husband Jim Toth reportedly feels guilty that he “dragged” his wife into legal drama after he was arrested for driving under the influence in Atlanta last Friday.

The Hollywood actress was briefly jailed on Friday after her spouse Jim Toth was taken into custody for driving under the influence in Atlanta, Georgia, in the early hours.

Reese was also handcuffed at the scene after the mother-of-three entered into a verbal disagreement with the arresting officer and ignored his request to stay inside the vehicle.

Reese has since issued a public apology for her disorderly behaviour.

Jim is apparently beating himself up over the incident.

"[He] feels awful that he involved Reese in the situation," a source told People magazine. "He made a bad decision and it certainly made things worse that he dragged her into it. [He] has to pay the consequences, bottom line. He gets that."

It is said Jim is worried about the professional ramifications of being detained for DUI.

The highly successful talent agent doesn’t want to show his face to colleagues.

"It's embarrassing for him. He'll have to explain himself to his bosses,” a second insider revealed to the publication.

This incident was a reality check for the couple.

Apparently Reese and Jim are reflecting heavily on their drinking habits.

"Jim has always been a big social drinker," the first source added.

"A lot of his job is being social. He's out to lunch or dinner almost every day of the week, schmoozing clients and taking business meetings.

"[The arrest is] just going to make the two of them stop and pause, and think about maybe how much Jim's drinking plays a role in their lives – if it does or not.”

Jim’s alcohol intake has upset some of his loved ones for quite some time.

This is no surprise to a few in his milieu.

“No one would be surprised, if Jim goes to rehab,” a third source revealed.

The couple will attend a court hearing on the matter on May 22.

Jim blew .139 in a breathalyser during his sobriety test on the night, a blood alcohol content level that is incredibly high. The legal BAC level in the state of Georgia is .08.
