TV veteran Sir Terry Wogan is heading back to the BBC for a new series about the best of British food.

The star, who was a TV regular for years with his own chatshow and annual appearances covering Eurovision, is joining up with London taxi driver Mason McQueen for a foodie road trip tracing the country's culinary culture.

He said: " I've taken the high road in the back seat of Mason's black London cab, as together we travel the country, meeting the people, seeing the sights and forcing down the occasional mouthful of food, in our fearless pursuit of epicurean excellence."

The series will be broadcast on BBC Two later this year.

Terry, who attracted an audience of more than eight million to his Radio 2 show, became one of the country's most popular broadcasters in a lengthy career and continues to host TV charity extravaganza Children in Need.

Earlier this year, it was announced he is writing a collection of short stories which will be published in the autumn.
