Victoria Wood had to have a scene written out of her new role because she was too nice to punch the other actress.

The comedian stars in new BBC One crime drama Case Histories but told the TV Times she couldn't bring herself to act out a fight.

On the scene where she confronts a mother bullying her child, Victoria said: "They wanted me to punch the child's mother in the face but I couldn't bring myself to do it.

"It was written out; we compromised. It's very hard to pull your hand back to punch a small woman who's already pinned up against a car - maybe this is why I had no career in Bond films."

Victoria, 59, is in the first of three new episodes of Case Histories, an adaptation of a Kate Atkinson bestseller.

The actress and writer, who is a fan of Kate Atkinson's books, explained why the role was perfect for her.

She said: "I was in Edinburgh anyway, so that was the first thing. Then when they said she was a security guard, I knew it would be a flat shoe. So that was it really. Edinburgh, flat shoe, Kate Atkinson."

Case Histories is on BBC One on Sunday May 19.

Sagittarius:

Working in isolation doesn't suit you. You're a social creature who gets your best ideas when collaborating with others. Unfortunately, that's not possible right now. Resign yourself to this difficult situation. If you do a good job, you'll pave the way for bigger and better assignments. Part of the problem is you lack experience. The only way to get the training you need is to do some volunteer work. Making a temporary sacrifice will eventually pay off. Be patient.More
