X Factor: James comes back fighting

James Arthur says he needs to work harder after finding himself in the X Factor sing-off

X Factor hopeful James Arthur has said he is "reinvigorated" after ending up in the bottom two in last week's show.

The singer-songwriter escaped the chop on Sunday night after judges opted to take the decision to deadlock, with Ella Henderson polling fewer votes.

James revealed at the Amy Winehouse Foundation Ball: "I'm obviously not working hard enough, either that or people assume that people like myself and Ella, who have been considered favourites for the final for a few weeks now, they may have thought we were safe.

"I don't know but it's given me the kick up the a*** that I needed and I feel reinvigorated and ready to take on whatever the competition brings."

He added: "I guess I'm not the punters' choice, I guess I'm not your conventional X Factor contestant, so maybe that's why people don't pick up the phone, I genuinely don't know but all I can do is keep doing what I'm doing and stick to what I know best."

The event in Amy's honour at The Dorchester hotel was staged to raise money for the foundation's work, which helps young people struggling with issues such as homelessness and drug and alcohol misuse.

James said: "To be invited to such an event is an absolute honour. Amy Winehouse is one of the greatest musicians to ever come out of the UK. She was a real artist and I loved everything she did."

Capricorn:

It feels like friends are few and far between. If you're not getting the help you need, ask why. It may be because you have been so preoccupied with work. Skipping special occasions and failing to return phone calls causes resentment. You have to be more engaged to sustain loving bonds. Call someone you've missed. It may take a few tries, but it's worth the effort. Be forthright about why you have been out of touch. Communication is the cornerstone of every healthy relationship.More
