Young wants to be a TV detective

Will Young has spoken about his acting ambitions, saying he'd love to play a TV detective or do a comedy drama.

The former Pop Idol winner has had a number of acting roles including 2005 film Mrs Henderson Presents and the 2011 TV series Bedlam, and told This Morning what he hoped to do next.

He said: "I want to do a comedy TV show drama and I really want to do a detective series. Maybe a period detective."

Will is currently starring in stage show Cabaret and said he loved the variety of his role.

"The audience are in the palm of your hand, and my character just had such a range of emotions that it makes it a different performance every night," he said.

"That's what makes it because it is an interactive show. That makes it a lot easier to go on tour. My motto is if you love something, do it as much as you can. I just turn up, do my role, put the lederhosen on and go home!"

Last year Will, 34, switched from label Sony Music to a new deal with Island Records.
