Zooey: I like to have guy friends

Zooey Deschanel has revealed she finds it easy to have male friends.

The 31-year-old actress stars in new Channel 4 sitcom New Girl as Jess, who moves into a flat with three men after breaking up with her boyfriend.

Zooey revealed: "I've always had both girl and guy friends."

She added: "I think it's important because you get something different form both of them. But I love hanging around with boys - it's fun."

The (500) Days of Summer star - who has been nominated for a Golden Globe award for the part - said she was happy to break from her movie career to take part in the show as it was so good.

Zooey said: "I really just go where the material is and this was such an amazing part. Movie or TV, if I read this part anywhere, I will do whatever it takes to be able to do this part. It was very much within my wheelhouse.

"But also it wasn't a character that I'd played before, but something that I really felt was a completely a great part for me. So that's why I chose to do TV."

But she hasn't ruled out the big screen completely.

She said: "Hopefully on my hiatus I'll be able to shoot a movie. That'd be great. If it doesn't happen it doesn't happen, but I think that ultimately that's the goal is to be able to balance both."
