Review: Dara O'Briain, Waterfront Hall, Belfast
Ad-libbing comic has crowd in his hands
The Belfast crowd enjoyed every minute of the comical musings of Dara O'Briain. The Waterfront Hall — or “giant f****** Jedi senate room” as he called it — was sold out.
From the off the quick-thinking Irishman told us we would be in for stories, messing about and plenty of “nice” audience participation.
Not the savage mockery of bygone comedy days, just a bit of friendly banter. O'Briain is a likeable character who deserves his place at the very top of the stand-up circuit, and his playful manner and conversational style sat well with the at times reserved crowd.
The Mock The Week host’s show is fresh and fun with the level of ad-libbing testament to his credentials as a true comedian. Not rigidly scripted, just a naturally funny guy.
Hilarious anecdotes flowed. If you are heading to the second show tonight, you're in for a treat.
