Robin Williams dies in suspected suicide
The world of showbusiness was in shock last night after the suspected suicide of Hollywood superstar Robin Williams at the age of 63.
The body of the actor and comedian was reportedly found at his home in Marin County, California. A statement from the Assistant Chief Coroner of Marin County said the Sheriff’s Office “suspects the death to be a suicide due to asphyxia, but a comprehensive investigation must be completed before a final determination is made.”
Williams’ publicist confirmed that the actor “has been battling severe depression of late.”
His wife, Susan Schneider, released a statement saying she was “utterly heartbroken.”
“This morning I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings,” she said.
Robin Williams rose to fame as the alien Mork in the TV series Mork and Mindy, and then went on to establish a stellar career in the movies, with memorable performances in Good Morning Vietnam, Dead Poets Society, Mrs Doubtfire and Good Will Hunting, for which he won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar.
