All the best: Actor Anthony Boyle's favourite things
The 21-year-old is in his final year of drama school in Cardiff. Originally from Belfast he will be appearing in East Belfast Boy as part of the EastSide Arts festival which begins tomorrow.
My best moment
When my cousin Keiran married his long-term partner Siobhan a few months ago. It was a brilliant wedding and gave the whole family a chance to get together.
My best song
I like Bronski Beat’s Smalltown Boy. It’s not the kind of song I normally go for, as I like gangsta rap, but I’ve always liked it.
My best way to relax
My friends want me to say a few bevvies with the boys — in reality though, I like to make origami. It started when my brother brought some home from an art class. I thought it looked great, so I found some tutorials on YouTube, and I’ve made over 150 items now. I put music on and make something like a swan for half an hour.
My best job
Obviously it’s being an actor. I loved filming East Belfast Boy, but I’ve also been in Game of Thrones — I played a young Bolton when Theon Greyjoy’s sister Yara was trying to rescue him.
My best advice
It’s not something that anyone has told me, it’s actually something I read. It’s “to thine own self be true” from Shakespeare’s Hamlet. I thought it was something worth taking on board.
My best gift
My brilliant girlfriend Kristy gave me a painting she had made, which features the two of us outside the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. It’s a lovely thing to have.
My best achievements
Being accepted as a student at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama — it was voted the top school the year I was auditioning. I’m useless at everything else — I can’t spell and I can’t count, so when I got in, it confirmed that there was something that I actually could do.
My best buy
I bought an old racer bike last year and I loved it — I named it Deirdre after my aunt, because she cycles a lot — but it got stolen, and I’d love to have it back. I try to think that someone else needed it more than me.
My best film
I have a couple, so it’s a toss-up between Annie Hall and The Godfather. I have a thing for Seventies films.
My best book
I do read, but I tend to go for plays, rather than books. My favourite book is an autobiography of a guy called Antony Sher, who is a South African actor. It’s called Beside Myself: An Actor’s Life and it’s the story of his acting career. It’s a bit mad.
