Author PJ Lynch in children's Laureate role
A Belfast author and illustrator has been unveiled as the fourth Laureate na nOg - the Republic's laureate for children's literature - by Irish President Michael D Higgins.
PJ Lynch has illustrated more than 20 books and has worked in children's literature since leaving Brighton College of Art in 1984, including modern editions of classics such as Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol and The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen.
Laureate na nOg is an initiative of the Irish Arts Council with the support of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, the Department of Children and Youth Affairs, Children's Books Ireland and Poetry Ireland.
The honour was created to engage young people with high-quality children's literature and to underline the importance of it in our cultural and imaginative lives.
Mr Lynch is a two-times winner of the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal, and has also been recipient of the Christopher Award three times.
