The Ulster Orchestra is starting its new season - and hopefully not its final one - in great style with solid bookings and an exciting programme.

Its Tuesday lunchtime BBC invitation concert was performed before a near-capacity audience in the Ulster Hall and broadcast live on the BBC3 national network.

This was an all-Mozart programme under the baton of its star principal conductor Rafael Payare and its leader Tamas Kocis.

The soloist for the afternoon was the Ukraine-born soprano Olena Tokar. Payare, who is destined for international distinction as a conductor, is in charge of this Friday's already well-booked concert featuring the Poulenc organ concerto and the Saint-Saens organ symphony.

The orchestra promises an outstanding season with its top young conductor - all it needs is the financial guarantee on which to build an even better future.
