Like The Messiah or The Snowman at Christmas, the Ulster Orchestra has certain "annual" events upon which it can rely for capacity audiences.

At the New Year, the music of Vienna is a sure fire way to entice even those who aren't normally fans of classical music.

This year's Viennese Concerts by the Ulster Orchestra will be conducted by Belfast-born Christopher Bell. As usual, the Ulster Orchestra does not just depend on the aural impact of the orchestral music alone. It will enhance the concerts with a singer soloist and two fine dancers, adding a visual element that has gone down very well over the past few years. The singer this year will be British mezzo-soprano Rachael Lloyd following a successful debut with the Ulster Orchestra in Rossini's Stabat Mater last season.

She has enjoyed success in the UK since her Glyndebourne debut in 2005 and is now establishing herself in Europe as well. Along with Rachael will be dance stars Ian Waite and Camilla Dallerup (above), best known for their involvement with the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing, who formed their professional partnership in 2004 and have gone from strength to strength ever since, establishing themselves in the top ranks of world pros.

So prepare to ring in the New Year in style with the toe-tapping rhythms and immortal melodies of non-stop waltzes, polkas and marches from the 'Waltz King', Johann Strauss, and other famous names from the sparkling world of Viennese music.
