Visual Art 13/11/09

Instead of selling through a gallery, some artists are now using the internet and one in particular who has been doing just that is Trevor Brown from Coagh.

After becoming rather disillusioned about gallery selling he decided to do it himself with the help of a friend.

His website has now been up and running for about a month. Trevor can now concentrate on just his painting without getting involved in various gallery politics.

Trevor was brought up on a farm where he found painting was an escape. I first noticed his work many years ago and I liked his quirky style immediately.

Then, however, he seemed to slip off my radar and I only saw odd pieces here and there, so was delighted to be invited, some weeks ago, to visit his studio. It was great to see that the quirkiness which I had loved is still there, only now it has matured and developed.

The big paintings, around 7ft tall by 4ft wide, are multi-faceted, each containing individual compositions. To a large extent he has left the farmyard behind and finds this newer direction more of a challenge. He says: “If it is more difficult for me to paint them, then I know I’m going somewhere new.”

He says his inspiration comes from: “Everywhere, life, feelings, everything.”

He loves brushstrokes, spending hours getting them right, sometimes spending three to four months on one painting. He is an interesting artist, totally dedicated to, and absorbed in, his practice.

This is really ‘must see’ work which can only be viewed on the web. Do look up the site: www.trevorjbrown.com . With works from as little as £10 up.
