Looking In, Waterfront Hall, Belfast, Until June 28
Local photographer Donal McCann has been working closely with the Welcome Centre for the past ten months and this, his new body of work, aims to capture the essence of the homeless community at their most vulnerable. McCann portrays the homeless and those sleeping rough, engaging them directly — ‘looking in’ at the camera. His work challenges the stereotypical images of the drunken, elderly, vagrant that many associate with homelessness.
The photographs are stark and sometimes disturbing, showing the human face of people who are seen as social outcasts. For information about the Welcome Organisation telephone Sandra Moore on 028 9024 0424 or look up www.homelessbelfast.org
