Dr Billy Hastings, founder of Hastings Hotels, joined staff in the kitchen to prepare Sunday roasts in a bid to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care
Ulster hotel tycoon Dr Billy Hastings showed off his culinary skills recently when he went 'back to the shop floor' for charity.
The founder of the Hastings Hotels Group, joined staff at his 4-star Stormont Hotel for a day preparing Sunday roasts to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
The nationwide event, entitled 'Back to the Shop Floor', sponsored by Persimmon Homes, saw some 26 business leaders across Northern Ireland at the mercy of their employees.
Swapping roles for the day, employees were responsible for telling their bosses what to do in a bid to raise vital funds for the charity.
"This is my second year taking part in the 'Back to the Shop Floor' event and although it wasn't any easier this year, I had a fantastic day," said Dr Hastings.
"Knowing that I was helping a top local charity was all the motivation I needed to ensure my service was top notch.
"The challenge is a real reminder to me of the hard work and dedication of my staff.
"My first job was in the timber trade and I moved into the hospitality industry in 1966, so it has been some time since I have been on the shop floor, so to speak. It's certainly something that I would recommend to other employers."
By taking part in 'Back to the Shop Floor', businesses across Northern Ireland have helped raise an estimated £8,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care, equating to 400 hours of high quality home nursing to terminally ill people.
