Clerical changes will affect over 20 parishes in diocese

Catholic Bishop of Derry, Dr Seamus Hegarty has announced the annual list of clerical changes for the diocese.

The new changes, which will affect over 20 parishes in Derry, Tyrone and Donegal, will become effective from Monday.

Father Patrick Doherty, Administrator St Brigid's Carnhill for the past four years, has been appointed PP Castlederg in succession to Father James McGonagle.

Father Doherty, a native of Buncrana, has previously served as curate at St Brigid's Carnhill, Killyclogher and Maghera.

He also served as chaplain to St Patrick's College while in Maghera.

In 2000, he was appointed Administrator in St Brigid's, Carnhill.

Bishop Seamus Hegarty will install Father Doherty as the new parish priest of St Patrick's Church, Castlederg, on Friday, August 27 at 7.30pm.

Father Doherty will be replaced at Carnhill by Fr Paddy Baker, CC Ballinascreen (Moneyneena).

Meanwhile, Father Peter McLaughlin, CC Leckpatrick, has been appointed PP Sion Mills in succession to Father Bernard Bryson.

Father McLaughlin is originally a native of the Long Tower parish, Derry. After being ordained in 1972, he served as curate in Mourne, Killyclogher, Clonmany and St Patrick's, Pennyburn.

In 1988 he was appointed Diocesan Secretary and also acted as Diocesan Master of Ceremonies. In 1995 he was appointed curate in St Eugene's Cathedral and, in 1997, became curate in Leckpatrick.

Bishop Francis Lagan will install Father McLaughlin as the new Parish Priest of Sion Mills in St Theresa's Church, Sion Mills, on Friday, August 27 at 7.30pm.

Father Colm O'Doherty, CC Waterside, to be CC St Eugene's Cathedral

Father Shane Bradley CC St Joseph's Galliagh to take sabbatical leave

Father Edward Gallagher, CC Killyclogher, to be CC Limavady

Father Thomas Canning, CC Our Lady of Lourdes, Steelstown, to be CC Omagh

Father Alex Anderson, CC St Eugene's Cathedral, to be CC St Joseph's Galliagh

Father Paul Farren to be Diocesan Director to Primary and Post Primary Catechetics and to reside at Derry Road, Leckpatrick

Rev Kevin Duddy, recently ordained deacon, to minister in the Parish of Omagh

Rev Peter O'Kane, recently ordained deacon, to minister in St Mary's, Creggan

Father James McGonigle, PP Castlederg, has been appointed PP Culdaff in succession to Father Joseph Morris who is to retire.
