Glasgow-based band Engine, who are no strangers to these shores, make a welcome return to Belfast this weekend to play the Digital T Festival. The band, fronted by the brilliant and sexy singer Kath, who hails from whitehead, support New York funkster Salvatore Principato at The Pavilion tomorrow night. The band came together after a chance encounter in Lavery's one night, when founder member Martin heard Kath singing Bessie Smith covers over live drum 'n' bass.

After the performance, he approached her and discovered that she was living in Glasgow - and from that night, Engine, now a staple of the Scottish and Irish music scene, was born.

The band have been gigging since 2002 but it's hard to describe just how good they are unless you see their professionalism and confidence first-hand. Their new single Startin' To Feel is out now on Bagatell Records, and features a remix from Groove Armada's Tom Findlay and musician Tim Hutton. The original Startin' To Feel is a hook-driven track with swinging house beats, acoustic and electric guitars, stunning vocals and powerful harmonies.

The latest Gifted event at Belfast's Empire club next Thursday sees an appearance from one of the best, and most popular, bands on the local scene, The Debonaires. The band is supporting Ash on their Irish tour and Razorlight at the In The City event in The Limelight on Tuesday, but will be headlining the Empire gig. After taking to the stage at a recent sell-out gig in Auntie Annie's, and with those prestige support gigs under their belt, this could be one of the last opportunities to see the band in a venue of this size.
