A bloody finale
January is shaping up to be a noisy month on the local gig scene. And it marks the end of an era for one local band, as the eloquently named Bloodbath Callaghan and the Warcrimes play their last ever show tonight. The venue is Lavery's Pavilion bar on Belfast's Ormeau Road, and the line-up of acts who'll be paying tribute includes Corrigan, Yakuza and Torgas Valley Reds. One of the more outrageously monikered bands on the scene, Bloodbath will be missed for their way with words, as well as their rock riffs, occasionally screamed lyrics and punk attitude.
Coda booked
If you're in the Newtownards area tonight, check out four-piece band Coda, who'll be bringing their brand of female-fronted alternative rock to The Warehouse.
Precious metal
It's metal night in Belfast's Rosetta bar tomorrow night, with a fabulous line-up that includes Involution, Hexxed, Bad Boat, Stand-Up Guy and Choke. Turning their backs on conveyor-belt metal bands and getting back to their underground roots is what motivates Hexxed to promote their extreme metal music. The group got together back in 1996 and have appeared on a best of Irish metal compilation. Another well-known name on the bill is Involution, who went down a storm at belFest last year. There's also Bad Boat to look forward to. Offering up stoner rock with a chaotic groove, they've got a couple of demos and an album under their belt, as well as a good reputation for live sets.
