A QUICK-THINKING cop was yesterday hailed a hero after giving a Carrickfergus woman the kiss of life.

At around 2.30am yesterday, a police patrol spotted a woman lying on the footpath at North Road in Carrickfergus receiving help from a male companion.

He told police the woman, believed to be in her 30s, had started to experience breathing difficulties while returning from a night out.

As the woman's condition worsened, she stopped breathing altogether.

A police officer performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, before the woman regained consciousness.

She was later taken to hospital and detained overnight.
