50 Cent works out with pillows

50 Cent started weight training during his recuperation after being shot.

The rapper may be facing a bankruptcy battle, but not even financial worries can make his exercise routine slip.

In fact he's so dedicated to fitness, the buffed up star makes sure he gets a workout in even when he's faced with a paltry gym.

"[The work out] needs to be very adaptable," 50's trainer Jay Cardiello told Muscle & Fitness magazine. "In some of the cities where he tours, there might not be a gym, or it's just a treadmill. Whatever he's got, he finds a way to make it work.

"He'll do pushups with his hands on pillows."

50, real name Curtis Jackson, burst on to the music scene in 2003 with hit album Get Rich or Die Tryin', which spawned hits like In da Club and P.I.M.P.

Before he became a big name though, 50 faced personal crisis when he was shot nine times from close range in 2000. To recover he moved from New York to Pennsylvania, where he found a love for weight training in "a country shack gym".

"I went everyday because there was nothing to do. It became a big part of my day. I trained and I wrote music. That was my focus," 50 explained.

A workout for the 40-year-old will see him push his body through leg raises, weights and dips. Heavy cardio training and boxing sessions also regularly feature.
