A$AP Rocky takes old-fashion trends and makes them his own.

The New York rapper's celeb status means he gets an invite to one of showbiz hottest events, the Met Ball.

Not one to follow tradition, A$AP bucks the trend of wearing a tie, even at the formal star-studded style event. "The last time I wore an actual tie was for a funeral in 2010. I don't wear ties for the simple reason that it's expected. I don't like looking like everyone else. Who said we have to wear a suit and tie, just because they look good together? I'm one of those kids that if I had to go to prep school I would have had to swag out my uniform. It's just preference. I didn't even wear a tie to the Met Ball this year. I love that Anna Wintour doesn't get p**sed off at me when I do sh*t like that," he told GQ America.

Anna hosts the annual bash in the Big Apple.

A$AP made this year's top 20 in GQ's Most Stylish Men Alive. Others lauded include Eddie Redmayne, Pharrell Williams and Jeff Goldblum.

Talking about the winners, the 26-year-old concedes that each of the stylish guys has the ability to transform the clothes they wear.

"It's the thing that we do best. It's not like we invented it. You take a certain style or fashion, whether it's a cocktail three-piece suit or a prohibition-era blazer or some 90s hip-hop gear... you take that aesthetic, and within that, you manifest your own style. It's that simple," he explained.
