Model Alexa Chung thinks Londoners have the best sense of street style.

Alexa Chung’s mother is one of her main sources of style inspiration.

The British model is known for her distinctive personal style and over the years has graced the pages of fashion magazines such as Vogue and Harper's Bazaar.

But when it comes to who influences her signature style, the 32-year-old admits her mother Gillian is top of the list.

"Especially the breton tops," she told Britain's Closer magazine. "Dresses, tops, overalls and Converse trainers are my go-to or skinny jeans and a band t-shirt. I'm indie through and through."

Accordingly, it makes sense that Alexa thinks Londoners have the best street style.

She likes the way women in the English capital lean towards looking a bit messy, undone or eccentric, unlike other cities such as New York where people are "so well put together".

While she has many big-name style icons - including singers Patti Smith, Courtney Love and George Harrison - Alexa happily admits she is obsessed with France-based actress Jane Birkin's outfits and looks online at her chic ensembles constantly.

"I love Birkin so much I'm almost bored of her - I Google her every day," she laughed.

Alexa likes to keep her wardrobe minimalist and only owns two pairs of jeans, one of which was given to her on a photo shoot. The brunette beauty adds that she prefers to buy from high street brands as she doesn't see the point in spending vast amounts of money on clothes.

"I borrow dresses to wear to events, but if I'm buying something for myself it might be from Zara, mixed with something from Liberty," she shared, adding that she likes to wear classic styles. "If you find something that suits you, stick to it."
