Alexa Chung talks brutal beauty

Alexa Chung says to prepare for a big night her make-up artist has to first "beat [her] face into submission".

The style icon joked that it is a lengthy process to get her looking red-carpet ready.

The flawless model-and-presenter doesn't bother with regular beauty treatments, preferring a slick of nail varnish for an instant feel-good boost.

"My make-up artist Kevin beats my face into submission for about two hours," Alexa laughed to British magazine Look. "I don't really do treatments, but I do like getting my nails done. I literally haven't had any time, so I did this [glitter chipped nail polish] two weeks ago. Glitter polish is great if you have no time to top up, because when it fades it doesn't really matter. I think that looks quite cool."

Alexa says she's got her favourite brands for nail varnish. As well as glitter, the trend setter hailed purple and peach shades as her spring staples.

"I always use OPI's Lucky Lucky Lavender. There's also another one I love by Essie called Tart Deco - it's a really lovely salmon shade," Alexa continued.

The British star gets inspiration for her beauty looks by observing people around her.

"It's funny, because I get my beauty inspiration from people - not necessarily their make-up, but more about how their faces look," she explained. "I realised that recently. I've always loved [English actress] Charlotte Rampling's face."
