The stylish Danish Girl star is anything but a clothes horse when she's not on a red carpet.

Oscar winner Alicia Vikander refuses to dress up when she's not attending a red carpet event and only owns three pairs of jeans and a few T-shirts.

The Danish Girl star, who recently landed the role of Tomb Raider Lara Croft in a new movie, insists she has more in common with the video game action woman than the stylish star fans see at awards shows and premieres.

The 27-year-old actress admits she travels light and when she's not smiling for the cameras at glitzy events, she wears one of three pairs of black jeans and an assortment of T-shirts.

''I like to play around with it (style)," she tells U.K. chat show host Lorraine Kelly. "I have my three pairs of black jeans and my T-shirts and then of course this (appearing on TV) is just a chance to dress up.''

And unlike many of her peers, Alicia does not pick out red carpet outfits weeks before big events - she always seems to be piecing together ensembles at the last minute.

''There's been a lot of travelling, so it's a lot of those things where you end up trying a dress in the last minute, but actually one of the most extraordinary things is that I had this tailor coming in last night and seeing what they can do in a few hours," she explains.

Meanwhile, the actress, who is dating Steve Jobs star Michael Fassbender, admits fame is a little overwhelming at times.

''A lot of the films are coming out during the same time," she said recently. "I'm scared of overexposure, but really I'm just feeling very happy about the work I've done with people I admire. Finally, we can let the films out there and see them alive.

''To be quite honest, it's nerve-racking, the way these films sort of piled up. It's a mixed feeling when everything you've ever wanted in making films is coming true, and yet you feel scared because it's happening all at once.''
