Antonio Banderas showcases debut fashion collection
Antonio Banderas has divided his first clothing collaboration into three sections - so he can reflect his life.
Actor Antonio Banderas' has unveiled his debut fashion collection.
The Mask of Zorro star is currently studying fashion at Central Saint Martins in London, and revealed his first creations in collaboration with Scandinavian high street label Selected on Wednesday (25May16).
The fall collection is split into three distinct sections - vintage, indigo and tailoring - which the 55-year-old believes is a true reflection of his personality.
"In a way they are me and my way of life,” he told WWD. "In the morning, I wear jeans, something comfortable, sneakers, a T-shirt and maybe a leather jacket, and I go out. If I have meetings, I want to go a little bit more elegant so I wear chinos, a blazer to have a meeting with the producer, or a cocktail. At night I have to go on the red carpet, so I’d like to use a tuxedo obviously or a black suit."
Antonio also incorporated a shade of ocean blue - inspired by his native Spain - into the lining of the outerwear and jackets in the collection, as well as gold metal embellishments into his $485 (£329) black biker jacket design.
“Probably one of the happiest times of my life was the Eighties, and I remember Versace putting gold with leather,” he explained of his inspiration. “I had this in mind, so we wanted to add the gold colour... I love motorcycles, I ride motorcycles, so we wanted to have a jacket that I can use and people with bikes can use for that purpose.”
The 30-piece collection also features wool-blend blazers, trousers, chinos, jeans, shirts and cashmere knit cardigans, and Antonio is delighted with how far his design skills have come since he began his studies.
"I wanted to do it from an honest point of view,” he admitted. “The best thing that you can do is to stay humble first and study. I’m 55-years-old, so to step in to a university like this you have to convince the professors that you are serious with what you want to do. I don’t know how I did it, but they got convinced. So I’ve been attending university in a very special way."
