Armani: Chastain looks perfect in my designs

Giorgio Armani describes Jessica Chastain as a "very charming woman".

The 37-year-old actress stars in J.C. Chandor's upcoming movie A Most Violent Year as Anna Morales, the wife of a Colombian immigrant called Abel Morales (Oscar Isaac). It's set in 1981 New York and Jessica rocks a sophisticated wardrobe from the era, such as a wrap trench coat with a bold graphic belt which highlights her waist.

Armani worked alongside costume designer Kasia Walicka-Maimone on the creations and even offered some original pieces from the period.

“[Working with Kasia and Chandor was a] high honour. This wonderful film project had great appeal to me because it is set in a time frame when women’s clothing was being revolutionised," Armani explained to WWD. "Minimalism was a shocking new concept. The power suit was just beginning to find its way into the wardrobes of the most confident women. Jessica Chastain is a very charming woman and I find that she always wears my clothes perfectly, with great, nonchalant ease.”

Away from the camera Jessica can often be spotted in the fashion star's pieces, such as at the 2013 Oscars where she wore a gorgeous strapless shimmering gold gown. It was during the Armani Privé haute couture show in January 2012 that she learnt of her best supporting actress Academy Award nomination for her role as Celia Foote in The Help.

Chandor was pleased with the finished looks in A Most Violent Year and how well both fashion experts worked together.

“Giorgio Armani’s clothes combine a sense of style, class and power, which are all traits I wanted Jessica Chastain’s character to convey,” the director added. “With Kasia Walicka-Maimone at the helm and access to Armani’s amazing vintage archives, we had the perfect collaboration for bringing my vision of 1981 to life.”

Kasia added how Jessica's friendship with the Armani family helped make the whole process a lot easier when they met with the actress and design team in Milan before production.
