Beyonce Knowles is 'star' dresser

Beyoncé Knowles was set for stardom from an early age as she had a "great look and total confidence" says Tommy Hilfiger.

The iconic fashion designer has recalled how impressed he was the first time he met the international superstar. The pair met when Beyoncé was starting out in the music industry, and from the outset the fashionista was impressed by the beauty's talents.

"I met Beyoncé when she was 16," he told WWD.

"My brother Andy was helping me with musicians, working with marketing, and he had set up a fashion show with Macy's. He said there is this group called Destiny's Child. They're teenage girls, they sing really well and we can get them to do the music for the show, so we booked them.

"When I met Beyoncé, I said to Andy, 'She is going to be a star.' Her voice was incredible; she had a great look and just total confidence. A couple years later, she became The Beyoncé, and we used her as the face of our fragrance.

"She was wonderful to work with."

Beyoncé, now 30, has turned her attention from music to motherhood. The singer and her husband Jay-Z welcomed their first daughter, Blue Ivy, into the world in January.

Tommy on the other hand has switched his focus to music - with news he will be a style consultant for American Idol contestants.
