Blake Lively: Scent can be powerful
Blake Lively believes fragrance is a "superpower".
The 26-year-old actress is very close to her family, including her brother, half-sisters and half-brother. When she first moved away from her loved ones she missed them immensely, so went to great lengths to try to fill the void.
"Fragrance is a superpower. Because if you smell the fragrance of someone you love, whether it’s your mom or your husband, the smell of your niece and nephew’s hair - that is one of the most powerful emotional experiences you can have," she told elle.com. "When I first moved to New York I bought this baby shampoo that my nieces and nephews wore and their baby lotion. And I used to wear it because I missed them so much that having my hair smell like them made me somehow feel more connected with them."
Blake is a big name in fashion as well as acting and is the face of Gucci's Premiére fragrance. Once people have bought the perfume they are able to log on to a website to request $5 from the sale is donated to charity. It's part of the label's Chime for Change initiative, aiming to boost opportunities for women and girls around the world.
It's the brain child of Gucci creative director Frida Giannini, and Blake is inspired by how much female empowerment means to the designer. Singer Florence Welch has also been involved, and Blake can't help taking style tips from the women.
"It’s always really cool to see a woman that’s so comfortable in her own skin. That’s very empowering," she said. "So whether they’re comfortable wearing jeans and a T-shirt, or whether they’re comfortable like Florence, wearing this flowing diaphanous gown, barefoot. That’s always really inspiring. And I think that what both of them have is they’re very unique and they’re very much themselves. They’re not posturing, they’re not trying to be anything else, they’re not walking through the world timidly."
