Brandon Flowers gets his brainpower from running

Brandon Flowers always has hiking on his mind and loves taking his fitness regime outdoors.

The 33-year-old Killers frontman keeps himself busy with music and is set to release his second solo album, The Desired Effect, in May of this year.

When he isn't in the studio or playing gigs, Brandon likes to keep himself in good health by taking part in regular exercise as well as avoiding alcohol, caffeine and smoking.

"I do cardio and weights. I mix the cardio up: I do elliptical, StairMaster and bike to distribute the damage and not put it all on my knees," he explained to Men's Health's Urban Active magazine. "There are lots of things I like about it. I need to get out of the house sometimes. I really feel the benefits of running in my brain. I feel lighter on my feet. I've got more energy."

It isn't just physically that working out benefits him; Brandon also feels it contributes to his vocals and says his fitness helps his overall singing skills a great deal.

Hailing from Las Vegas, the rock star likes to incorporate the open surroundings of the outskirts of the city into his regime.

"The Mojave Desert around Vegas is beautiful for [running or hiking]: we have great trails and hikes. I take advantage any time I can," he smiled. "We'll go at night, when it cools off, and hike with flashlights. We've hiked all over the place [on tour]. I've taken down Snowdon. The Alps. We've done good ones in Chile, Sweden... all kinds of places. It's always on my mind, where we should hike on days off. I love it."
