Britney: London lingerie inspired me

Britney Spears hopes her lingerie line will empower women.

The pop princess launched her first underwear and sleepwear collection, Intimate Britney Spears, at New York Fashion Week last week. For the singer, it was the culmination of years of dreaming and designing.

"This is something I have been wanting to do for ten years now," she told Popsugar. "I've been to Europe and I went to London and I saw the most amazing lingerie store. I was like 'I have to do something like this!' So the last two years I have been putting this together and coming up with the materials and all the details for it and the colours are just really muted and soft and it's very vintage and pretty."

The collection is divided into ten different themed lines or "intimate stories" as the 32-year-old described them, each named after a different flower.

The line includes lacy separates and pretty kimonos with colours including black, red and nude palettes.

Britney further reveals a number of the items were inspired by some of her music shoots.

"I did a video called Everytime and a lot of the things in the video are very similar to the line," she revealed.

Britney is something of an expert when it comes to lingerie after all the photoshoots and videos she has made and she has never been afraid to show off her enviable body. The mother-of-two wanted to share and impart some of her self-confidence with her fans.

"I felt like, for me I'm in my 30s, these are my best years and I just felt like I wanted to inspire women and make them feel empowered too," she said. "You know you don't need a man to wear sexy things, you can do this on your own, take a bath and light your candles and empower yourself and feel beautiful."
