Carey Mulligan: My style is conservative

Carey Mulligan has described her style as "pretty conventional".

The British actress rose to prominence starring as a naive schoolgirl who falls in love with an older man in 2009 film An Education. She has since grown to become one of the most in-demand actresses in the industry, as well as making a name for herself as a fashion icon thanks to her demure red-carpet style.

Carey claims her wardrobe choices are very safe as she often sticks to the same style rule to avoid red-carpet disasters.

"I never wear anything above the knee," she told People. "I wore a dress above the knee once and it was to the Met Ball. I just hated it! The dress was amazing but I just can't do it. I'm pretty conventional."

Carey has previously revealed that dressing up for the red carpet used to make her anxious. However, the fresh-faced beauty now has a distinctive style thanks to her Hollywood career.

"I was kind of a tomboy and was never massively into fashion," she confessed.

"[Samantha McMillan - my stylist] and I have such a fun time trying things on. It's literally whatever I feel comfortable in."

Carey has signature pixie-length hair. The stunning star is undecided about whether she wants to keep her short tresses or not, and often changes her mind.

"I get to the point where I'm half growing it out and then I cut it off," she explained.

"But I'll spend the next six months winging about it, thinking I look like a boy."
