Carrie Underwood: I won't go brunette

Carrie Underwood has dyed her hair a darker shade of blonde, but says she'll never be ready to leave her lighter locks behind for good.

The American singing star is well known for her long flowing blonde locks, but recently decided to try out a darker shade.

While she's not gone for a full dye job Carrie did debut a more subdued hair colour at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night and seems to be enjoying her new look.

"It’s just a little bit darker. I don’t think I’d want to or could even pull off being a brunette, but it’s just nice sometimes to change it up a bit," she informed People magazine.

"I’ve been super blonde forever, and I feel like there are a lot of super-blonde ladies in music so I thought I’d darken it just a little bit.”

Carrie, 31, took home the Milestone Award at the event held in Las Vegas, and stunned on the red carpet in a yellow floor length gown by Oriett Domenech, with intricate brocade detail that showed off her toned physique. Her newly-darkened hair was swept off her face and worn in an elegant up do.

Carrie, who won the fourth season of American Idol, has become one of the top earning country recording artists. But her love for powerful ballads is reserved for the stage only, as she indulges in much more angry tunes to get her blood pumping when working out.

"My workout playlist is a bit random and angry. I like really loud, mad music. Not necessarily stuff I’d listen to getting ready in the morning or driving around in my car," she previously revealed to Women’s Health magazine.

"I want something that makes me want to hit something, if that makes any sense at all. I like mad music when I work out."
