Charlotte Gainsbourg's casual style
Charlotte Gainsbourg has a "casual attitude" towards fashion.
The 43-year-old actress is admired for her laidback style and relaxed approach to fashion. She dresses to reflect her personality, which means she doesn't focus too much on picking her ensembles and instead sticks to what she feels comfortable in.
“I don’t really want to pay attention to clothes – I don’t see it as my job. I like it when it feels natural, but talking and analysing... I find that weird,” she told The Edit. “The most important thing for me is not to take myself too seriously. I like casual things, so I have to have a casual attitude.”
For her interview, Charlotte rocked a pair of boyish jeans, Stan Smith sneakers and a plain T-shirt, an expression of this notion.
While she may not dress up in everyday life, the brunette beauty does make an exception for fashion campaigns. She currently stars in Louis Vuitton's Fall/Winter 14 advertisements, in which she is seen wearing gorgeous pieces such as a pair of leather trousers and a red halter-neck top.
Charlotte is close to the brand's creative director Nicolas Ghesquière and was there during his transition from his former job to his current position at Louis Vuitton.
“We’ve been friends for a long time,” she smiled. “I really followed him during his time at Balenciaga and the gap [between Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton] was painful. He was really missing – it seemed like he was gone for ages.”
Charlotte was shot by iconic photographers Annie Leibovitz, Bruce Weber, and Juergen Teller, who are also behind Louis Vuitton's Fall and Resort lookbooks. The Fall 14 ads are dubbed 'Series 1', and in a video capturing the shoot, one of Charlotte's own songs is played in the background.
