Christina Hendricks sizzles in red

Female stars went for a red theme at the 2014 Emmy Awards last night.

The flame-haired actress went all out for the occasion, highlighting her hourglass figure in a fitted scarlet Marchesa gown. It featured one strap, a ruffled bodice and gold embellishment on the side to add a spot of sparkle. Matching the metallic statement Christina wore dangling gold earrings and held a small gold Lee Savage clutch, wearing her iconic wavy red hair down.

She looked smitten as she posed with her husband Geoffrey Arend, who was smart in a black suit and bowtie.

Keeping up the red craze was Christina's Mad Men co-star January Jones. The blonde beauty dazzled in a strapless Prabal Gurung dress with a wide structured skirt to show off her Christian Louboutin shoes. Toning down the glamorous outfit, January wore her light locks up in a twisted updo and accessorised with a few pieces of jewellery such as a Carla Amorim ring.

Homeland actress Claire Danes jetted in from South Africa for the ceremony and wore a lacy bold red Givenchy Haute Couture gown. The vintage-style piece had sheer lacy panels and an all-lace back, and was the perfect backdrop for her glittering Lorraine Schwartz jewels. The choice raised some eyebrows as it was very similar to the gown Kim Kardashian wore for her May wedding to Kanye West.

Claire wore her hair up to give all attention to her extravagant ensemble and her bright crimson lips. Her actor husband Hugh Dancy stood by her side and the pair looked the perfect loved up couple on the red carpet.

Other female stars shunned the colour red, such as Anna Gunn. The Breaking Bad actress, who picked up best supporting actress in a series for her role as Skylar, opted for an asymmetric Jenny Packham gown. The white top was intricately decorated in silver embellishments, while the blue skirt fell with a slit up the leg.
