Chung to host FIT show

Alexa Chung is happy to support emerging designers at an upcoming fashion show.

The stylish star is usually seen in the front row of such events, but for the FIT show, she is overseeing proceedings as hostess. It’s a natural fit for the 30-year-old as she has previously spoken of her respect for emerging designers.

The FIT fashion show represents the best work of FIT's graduating Bachelor of Arts fashion design students. The professional runway show includes sportswear, special occasion, knitwear, intimate apparel, and children’s wear.

“It takes a lot of guts to have your hard work put on display for others to critique and judge,” she told WWD. “The fashion industry can be a rude awakening for new designers, and FIT offers these students an amazing opportunity to get a glimpse of what they can expect in the ‘real world'.”

The FIT show takes place on campus on May 1 and will be sponsored by Calvin Klein.

It’s been a busy time for Alexa recently, as she attended the Vogue Festival at London’s Southbank Centre at the weekend to talk about her style. The British Vogue contributing editor only had positive things to say about her city’s fashion credentials.

“The great thing about style here in London is that it celebrates our quirks and eccentricities,” she told the audience.

Alexa’s outfit on the day certainly fitted into the ‘quirky’ bracket. The star seemed to admit on Twitter that she was attending the event in her nightwear. “Arriving in pyjamas to talk about personal style at the Vogue Festival. #wardrobecrisis (sic)” she wrote.

Her struggle to settle on an outfit on Sunday may have been down to Alexa not being able to envision exactly what she wanted to wear. The current cover girl for Glamour Italia also revealed she chooses her outfits around how she sees herself at any given time. “Clothes have always been about how I feel about myself and how I would like to feel,” she said.
