Ciara: I lost 60lbs in four months
Ciara has opened up about how she got back in shape just four months after giving birth.
The Love Sex Magic singer welcomed her little boy Future Zahir in May last year. While some new mothers struggle to shed the baby weight, the 29-year-old admits she was completely focused on getting back in shape as soon as possible.
“As soon as the doctor said I could start training again [after being pregnant], I was on the treadmill the very next day,” she told Shape magazine. “Once I got back into it, I worked out two or three times daily. I would go to Gunnar [Peterson] first for my one-hour training session, then I'd have two more cardio sessions later in the day. That, along with a really clean eating plan, was how I lost 60lbs in four months. It was a very intense programme, and I was extremely focused on it."
The star hasn’t taken her foot off the gas since, and looks stunning in the interviews accompanying photographs. Ciara shows off her toned physique on the cover in just a white vest and black pants while wearing red training gloves, a nod to her love of boxing. In another shot she wears a slinky sequined skirt with a thigh high split and a white cropped top.
“Gunnar puts me through an hour-long plyometric cardio circuit that always includes boxing elements,” she explained. “What's amazing is that you're getting three-in-one training: It's hitting your muscles; it's a cardiovascular workout; and it's a mental exercise. You have to be super focused when you're boxing. After I've done a few rounds, I feel as if I can conquer the world."
Intense fitness wasn’t the only thing that got Ciara in shape though. She credits regularly drinking water as another element of her weight loss plan.
“I also believe that drinking tons of water and flushing out your system is crucial for training. It really helped me drop the weight,” she said. “I tell myself that water is my medicine and that to stay well, I have to drink a gallon of it every day.”
