Dakota Fanning: I love my mature style

Dakota Fanning enjoys her fashion freedom since leaving high school.

The 17-year-old actress is beginning her freshman year this autumn at New York University. Dakota is currently piecing together her collegiate wardrobe and finds the experience quite novel.

"Going to college is a bit different than going back to high school," Dakota told People at a Marc Jacobs party in New York City.

"You can kind of wear whatever you want, and I had a uniform in high school."

Although Dakota has a lot of clothes to choose from, she adheres to a strict code of outfit conduct. Dressing casually has a limit.

"If you ever catch me in sweatpants in class, that's not good," Dakota laughed. "I've tried not to dress like that."

The Los Angeles native is new to New York's seasonal weather. Dakota came prepared.

"I knew to bring a lot of coats, and my Hunter rain boots," Dakota said.

Dakota is currently the face of Marc Jacobs' campaign for his perfume Oh, Lola!

The pretty actress served as the designer's muse for the fragrance and Dakota finds his work equally inspiring.

"It's been such an honour to work with someone who you admire and actually love wearing their clothes and love their brand," Dakota said.

"I think Marc is such a genius and so creative, and I think he proves time and time again that he can do anything. To be involved in anything he touches is a pleasure."
