Danielle Brooks: Jellies aren't for me
Danielle Brooks' latest purchase made her realise it's not cool to be a fashion sheep.
The 24-year-old is best known for portraying likeable convict Tasha 'Taystee' Jefferson on hit Netflix show Orange Is the New Black.
One of the hottest trends right now is '90s-style jelly sandals, which used to be worn by kids at the beach. But Danielle realised that sometimes it's not wise to follow the crowd when it comes to style.
"I saw that jelly sandals were coming back in and I used to love them as a kid," she explained to Stylecaster.com.
"So I bought a pair, and then realised sure, they might be in for others, but not for me. I put them on - they were not the business."
The star is a fan of showing off her killer curves on the red carpet and rarely misses a trick in the wardrobe department. But she's also a firm believer in paying attention to what goes underneath the dress.
"Ladies, undergarments are important. They can really make or break a look. You want everything to look tight and right, and snatched. Men, it’s okay to wear them too. It won’t make you less of a man," she advised.
During the interview, Danielle also discussed her love of New York and commented the city allows people the "freedom" to experiment with their look. The Big Apple even influences the star's personal style.
"Everywhere you go, people are showing their individuality. For example, when I go to Brooklyn’s Afropunk, I’m inspired by the many different natural hairstyles, funky jewellery, and tattoos," she smiled.
"That’s one of my favourite festivals in New York. There are so many amazing designers that are selling, and the most eclectic, unique styles ever."
