Demi Lovato has showed off the final result after covering up an old tattoo in the shape of lips that she disliked with a huge rose inking.

The 22-year-old singer has long been a fan of expressing herself with tattoos. But after likening one on her left wrist of a pair of lips to female genitalia, she has finally succumbed to getting it covered – with a huge rose inking.

“Bye bye [lips] and hello [rose].. Thank you SO MUCH to my brother @GEESPOTAT2… It looks beaaauutiful and I LOVE it!! (sic),” the Really Don’t Care hitmaker captioned a photo shared on her Instagram page, along with the hashtags #RIPvaginatattoo and #kidsdontdodrugs.

The sizeable new floral embellishment sits nicely under the inspirational message, “Stay”, with the accompanying word, “Strong” on her right wrist.

The star previously revealed that she got the pair of tatts in 2011 as a tribute to her devoted fans, who supported her and got her through her toughest time. Demi entered a rehab facility in November 2010, where she was treated for “physical and emotional issues”. Upon her release on January 28, 2011, she opened up about suffering from bulimia, self-harming and self-medicating with drugs and alcohol.

Demi has since become an inspiration to many young girls suffering from similar issues, while she herself turned to her faith to keep her on the right track.

She also has a tattoo featuring a flock of 12 birds on the underside of her forearm as a reminder of her Christianity.

Demi gave fans the first glimpse of her new artwork on April 1, posting a photo of her tattoo artist busy at work. However, she admitted it was a rather long “work in progress” and while she assured fans she wasn’t playing an April Fools’ joke on them, she wanted to wait until the tattoo was complete before debuting it in full.

“Oh yeah..... Forgot to post this.... It's still a work in progress so I'll insta when it's done... and no this is NOT an April fools joke haha (sic),” she informed her 12.7 million followers.
