Diane Kruger says her interest in fashion is “artistic and personal”.

The German actress often appears on best-dressed lists for her red carpet outfits and feels she has found her winning style formula. Diane is deeply passionate about fashion and likes being creative with her clothes.

“[Fashion] is second nature to me,” she told British magazine Look. “It’s something I’ve loved ever since I was a little girl – it’s part of who I am. Some people might think fashion is superficial, but I look at it as something artistic and personal. It’s the first thing you see when you meet someone and it’s also the first thing you can control. It’s all about how you would like to be perceived.”

The 36-year-old former model is renowned for her close friendship with Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld. Diane has known Karl since she was a teenager and is regularly seen wearing his creations at glitzy events.

The star is deeply grateful for all the support and advice the iconic fashion star has given her throughout her career.

“I’ve known Karl since I was 16. I modelled for Chanel quite a bit when I was younger. When I started to act, Chanel lent me clothes for premieres and Karl designed a haute-couture gown for me for the premiere of Troy in Cannes [2004]. I still have the sketch he made for that outfit,” she smiled. “I look at him as a mentor and often ask for his advice. I respect his insight and intelligence - he’s a man of immense vision. I’m grateful for all the beautiful outfits he’s given me over the years.”
