Elisabeth Moss talks subtle style
Elisabeth Moss doesn't feel "married" to a particular decade with her wardrobe for The Heidi Chronicles.
The 32-year-old actress can currently be seen in Broadway show The Heidi Chronicles, helming the title character Heidi Holland in the production based on the fictional art historian.
As the story moves through time it's imperative that Elisabeth's wardrobe is varied but subtle and made up of pieces she could rock in everyday life.
"The show goes from 1965 to 1989, so it’s not just 80s, it’s 60s, 70s, and 80s. Jessica Pabst is our costume designer and it was really important to her to have costumes that you could just walk off the stage and take the subway in," Elisabeth explained to instyle.com. "When we do get to the 80s, there is some stuff that has an 80s silhouette, but in a way that, you know, Marc Jacobs would do today. It’s not garish, just a little nod to different decades."
The same goes for hair and beauty looks. As everything is fast-paced it has to be a quick and effortless change when moving into the future.
"We don’t want to be married to any particular decade, because we travel through time so quickly. Same thing for the make-up: natural and timeless," she added. "There are a million quick changes, so I don’t have time to change to different hairstyles and make-up."
Elisabeth is no stranger to wearing period pieces after playing Peggy Olson in TV drama Mad Men, set in a 60s New York advertising agency. For this role she boasted an enviable range of costumes made up of retro skirts, blouses and plenty of bows.
