Elizabeth Taylor clothes auction smashes record
Dame Elizabeth Taylor's most recent wardrobe auction has set another world record.
The late Hollywood legend's collection of fine jewellery was sold earlier this week and clinched the titled of the most expensive collection of trinkets sold in one night.
The auctioning continued at Christie's in New York last night, where the actress' wardrobe of iconic haute couture gowns and more jewels fetched a further $2.6 million.
The total sum set another best for a fashion sale.
Elizabeth's Christian Dior evening gown and matching clutch was one of the most impressive sales of the night. The outfits reached a staggering $362,500.
They were estimated to fetch just $6,000.
Elizabeth is famed for her two marriages to Richard Burton. The popularity of such a union reflected in last night's sale.
Wedding memorabilia from the star's big days proved the biggest spectacle of the night, with the Gina Fratini gown worn to their second wedding selling for $62,500.
The two diamond and gold wedding bands from both marriages sold for $1 million.
The spectacular figure was a huge increase on the $8,000 estimation price.
Fashion fan and TV beauty Kim Kardashian clinched three Lorraine Schwartz bangle bracelets. The star won the jewels after putting in the highest bid at $64,900.
A last minute decision was made to withdraw the yellow chiffon gown Elizabeth wore to her first wedding day.
Instead, it will be donated to an institution.
