Elle Fanning ditches girlie girl style
Elle Fanning no longer only wears "girlie" clothes, but does find it hard to shop for jeans.
The American actress is making waves in Hollywood, both for her acting abilities and style choices.
As part of her promotional duties for new film Maleficent, Elle has rocked dresses by designers such as Elie Saab, Georges Hobeika and Valentino, but the young star says she's no longer adverse to wearing trousers if the mood takes her.
"I’m very girlie, so it used to be a lot of Peter Pan collars and poofy dresses," Elle divulged to ASOS magazine. "Now that I’m getting older, I feel like I can wear things a bit more structured and a bit more tomboy. I’m OK with wearing trousers now, but when I was 12, I was like, 'No, that’s for boys!' Nowadays, if I go into Urban Outfitters, I’ll have a look in the guys’ section."
Her change in attitude could have something to do with her Maleficent co-star Angelina Jolie, who often wows in tailored trousers.
Some denim styles continue to be a problem for 16-year-old Elle though, and she's extremely fussy when it comes to jeans.
"Jeans are like… urrrrggggh, you know? I never wear skinny jeans. If I wear jeans, I wear them big. I like Acne jeans, they are so substantial. If I wear jeans, I want to wear jeans," she said.
Despite classing some of the biggest names in fashion as personal friends, including Rodarte's Laura and Kate Mulleavy and Alexa Chung, Elle says she only trusts her own instincts when it comes to clothes.
"I don’t ask for too much advice because I’m extremely particular about the way I dress. I’m very blunt about what I think goes with what. I know right away, yes or no.
"It’s mostly random street style from girls I don’t even know," she said of her style icons. "I get more inspiration from that than from one specific person. When you’re in that Tumblr zone, something leads to the next thing and suddenly you look up and it’s dark outside!"
