Fashion spy: I like Blake Lively because she looks really effortless

Our reporter Laura Abernethy checks out the style at Victoria Square, Belfast.

Megan Kane (19), student, Belfast

Wore what? Top, £17, trousers, £13, bag, £30, all New Look; shoes, £10, Primark.

Why? I like to be a bit different so I wear a mix of smart and casual. Green and burgundy are my favourite colours so I'm excited about the autumn palette this year. I would never wear anything neon because it's too bright.

Who? I really don't like the way Paloma Faith dresses, it's just a bit eccentric. While I like to be unusual, I think she goes too far.

Maria McKiernan (19), student, Belfast

Wore what? Boots, £40, Topshop; skirt, £18, Pull and Bear; jacket, £25, River Island; T-shirt, £9.99, Pull and Bear.

Why? I like to be comfortable but I also like to follow trends. At the minute I am wearing a lot of black and autumn colours so I'm looking forward to the new season.

Who? I like Blake Lively because she looks really effortless.

Lucy Boe (25), shop assistant, Lisburn

Wore what? Hat, £8, Primark; dress, £5, Topshop; boots, £70, Zara.

Why? My style is quite casual but I like to keep up with trends, so it can change. I like to wear bright colours, so even if I'm wearing dark clothes, I will put on a bright lipstick for a pop of colour.

Who? I love Sienna Miller's boho style but I think Lily Allen's style is a bit nuts. I think she's a bit too over the top.

Kila McErlean (20), trainee teacher, Kilrea

Wore what? Dress, £10, shoes, £10, both Primark; cardigan, £8, H&M; bag, £20, Topshop.

Why? I like cute little dresses and I never wear jeans. At the minute, I'm really into wearing oranges and yellows.

Who? I love Zooey Deschanel in New Girl because she's sort of quirky and cute, but I don't like too much glitz and glam so I'm not a fan of Miley Cyrus or Lady Gaga.

Carol Gray (56), childminder, Belfast

Wore what? Shirt, £10, Primark; jeans, £40, jacket, £20, both River Island; sandals, £30, Sketchers.

Why? I like to dress smart and wear bright colours to stand out a bit.

Who? I don't really follow any celebrities but I'm not a fan of the Kardashians - because I think it's all a bit much.

Ciara Girvan (21), student, Belfast

Wore what? Boots, £38, jeans, £30, both River Island; jacket, £30, top, £12, both New Look; bag, present.

Why? I don't like to be too dressed up. I love reds and rusty colours because it doesn't clash with my dark hair.

Who? I like what Kylie Jenner wears. I see her in magazines and she always puts her outfits together well. I wouldn't go for Rita Ora's style.

Rebekah Wallace (22), actress, Portadown

Wore what? Top, £8, boots, £30, both Forever 21; dress, £19.99, Pretty Little Thing; poncho, £25, Boohoo; bag, £300, Guess.

Why? I like to be quirky and wear something a little bit different. I really like the suede style that is coming in for autumn and I love burgundy colours. I prefer to wear plain things as I'm not keen on patterns.

Who? I like the stars of Made in Chelsea, particularly Lucy Watson and Binky, as they do smart casual really well. They wear a great outfit during the day and then just put a pair of heels with it - and they can rock on at night.
