Lady Gaga only told designer Prabal Gurung her VMA dress needs 48 hours before the ceremony.

The Nepalese designer wasn't fazed though and managed to pull off a spectacular black number, which Gaga sashayed down the red carpet in.

Although it was a big task, Prabal pulled it off with a smile on his face.

Talking to he was happy to oblige as he is a "huge, huge, huge fan" of Gaga's.

"I think she is one of the most important artists of our time. I love her music and what she stands for," he gushed to the website.

The black technical satin gown had a plunging neckline as well as a giant bow tied around Gaga's waist, to show off her slim figure.

Gaga accessorised the stunning floor length dress with jet black hair to finish off her polished gothic look.

Gaga has shocked fans and critics with her demure choice of outfit this year. It was at the 2010 VMAs that she wore the controversial meat dress.

Prabal's creation seen on Sunday night was similar to another dress he's working on for his Spring/Summer 14 collection.

The new line will be debuted at New York Fashion Week on September 7.

The designer is a big hit with the A-list and has also dressed the likes of Kate Hudson and Jennifer Lawrence.

He also dressed US First Lady Michelle Obama over the weekend, with a blouse from his Resort collection.
