Giambattista Valli launches Macy's line
Giambattista Valli has launched his Macy's collection with the help of Chanel Iman.
The Italian fashion designer's range hit the American department store last night. Crowds of fashion fans gathered outside the Manhattan, New York City shop to catch a glimpse of the designer and his creations, and they weren't disappointed.
The collection filled the store's windows, with Giambattista eventually strutting his stuff down the makeshift runway. He was accompanied by Chanel, Jessica Stam and Hanaa Ben Abdesslem, as well as two senior Macy's bosses and models wearing his pieces.
The Giambattista Valli for Impulse Only at Macy's range was laid out on the second floor, with hundreds of people rushing to get a look at it.
The designer was thrilled with the reception.
"I thought it was the right moment. It's like these are collector's pieces. It's almost like they're a passport to get into my world," he told WWD.
"I started with party dresses for young, fresh girls. Everyone else was doing ball gowns. These are fun pieces.
"I believe in special projects. They always bring you new ideas and with projects you have to follow your DNA to the end."
Giambattista is the latest fashion star to create a line for Macy's.
Karl Lagerfeld and Matthew Williamson have done so before, with Doo-Ri Chung's line debuting in February.
