Glenn Close refers to herself as the "perfect" Giorgio Armani woman.
The American actress attended the designer's One Night Only event at the SuperPier in New York's Hudson River Park last night.
Glenn was thrilled to be supporting her friend and recalled her first Armani purchase, a blazer, in the early '80s when she visited his Madison Avenue store.
"I'm the perfect Armani woman," she mused to WWD. "It's classic and beautiful and you can still be yourself. You don't have to worry about all the frou frou and stuff, you know? I'm a yankee, after all. We've developed this huge kind of respect and affection for one another ever since [I bought the blazer]."
Another guest at the event was actress Renée Zellweger. The blonde beauty praised the fashion star for influencing the world of style.
"I think it's fair to say he changed the paradigm for classic elegance," she smiled.
Ricky Martin is also a fan of the designer after being styled by him for his 2011 Livin' la Vida Loca tour. The singer feels grateful to have such a famous input in his shows.
"Mr. Armani is a good friend. He's been very generous throughout my career. His clothes look amazing anywhere, on the street or on stage," he gushed.
Armani didn't even try and be modest when asked about why such an event was held in his honour by Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
His reasoning was because he is a "strong, powerful man".
However, the 79-year-old designer did talk about his appreciation for the American fans. Having started out in Italy, Giorgio is pleased he can offer fashion lovers in the US such fabulous designs.
"It always has been such an important market, highs and lows, from the beginning," he recalled. "It's been very positive as well because it was the first country to react positively to my fashion, so it's very important to me. I have something to give back to America."
