Guy Pearce: I bulked up for film role

Guy Pearce has revealed the "bulking up" he had to do for his new film.

The 44-year-old stars in Lockout as a man who is wrongly convicted of conspiracy and is offered his freedom if he can rescue the US president's daughter from a space jail overrun by violent inmates. The Australian actor trained hard to prepare for the movie role.

"There was a bit of bulking up to do before shooting, but I was fit enough," he told ShortList magazine.

"I eat pretty healthily anyway, so it was a matter of eating more. I play an army marine sort of chap, so I thought it was important that I look like one, and they can be big. It was about getting into weight training, relying on some past experiences"

Guy kept on top of his fitness in his youth, and continues to exercise as an adult.

"Believe it or not, I was a bodybuilder as a teenager for a short while, so it was matter of drawing on those years," he said.

"Also, it's not as if I haven't been to the gym in all those years. It's just the roles I've previously had haven't needed to show this."

The action movie also stars Maggie Grace and Vincent Regan and is directed by James Mather and Stephen St. Leger.
